How can I participate in the LOC Project?
Joining the LOC Project is easy. There's just a few criteria:
- You must be a woman of color. A woman of color is a woman who is not completely of white or European heritage. You can be of any age, and be from any place in the world. If you are a non binary feminine person of color, you can participate in the project as well.
- Your shared media (story + potential image(s) and/or artwork) must be appropriate for all ages. Your shared media can deal with mature issues such as race relations and sexism, but please refrain from sharing anything graphic. Your media can take any format, from essays to short stories to poetry and paintings to drawings to digital art. Don't be afraid to submit experimental work!
- Due to the deadline for my senior project, all work must be submitted by April 29, 2016. Unless you have contacted me and we have discussed otherwise, no work received after that date will be eligible.
What is the LOC Project looking for?
If you fit the criteria above, all you need is to do is share a powerful story. A story does not have to feature a major life event or dramatic occurrence in order to be deemed "powerful". Powerful stories come in all forms. Don't be hesitant to share if you want to contribute!
The story can be a life experience, one you've heard from someone else, or the likes of a folk tale. It can even be fictional and/or in an unconventional format. Anything is acceptable. All I ask is that the story be rightfully yours to tell. It is recommended that an uplifting or positive story be submitted, but you can submit sadder stories if you wish. The nature of your story will not impact your chances of publication (unless it is deemed inappropriate or you are not eligible).
You can also submit an image to accompany your story. If you submit more than one image, it is not guaranteed that all of them will appear in the publication. If you submit a group of images, please indicate which one you would most like to see published if your story is chosen.

Can I submit art?
Yes, but you will have to fill out a different form. The criteria for art is the same as the criteria for stories and images. Your art can be independent of a written story. If you are submitting an art piece to match a story, please submit using the form for written stories and send your image in the same manner.
If your art is published, please note that it may be placed alongside a story rather than an independent page. The smaller your piece of art, the more likely it is to be placed alongside a story with no image. If your piece of art is larger, it will most likely appear on an independent page. If you are submitting multiple works, it is not guaranteed that all of them will be published if you are chosen as an artist. Please indicate which work of art you would most like to see published if your art is chosen. Please take note that if you are submitting multiple works, you must fill out one form per work. This is the only way I can keep track of who created each work of art.

Will I receive credit for my work?
Yes. You will receive full credit for any published material that is yours.
If your work is not published, you will retain all rights to it. Your submitted work will not be distributed or shared unless it is chosen for the chapbook.

Where can I find the forms?
Is it guaranteed that I will be published in the chapbook?
No. Your chances of being published depend on the number of submissions received. If there are a larger amount of submissions, your chances will be lower. Likewise, if there are a smaller amount of submissions, your chances will be higher. Because I am looking for a diverse group of women, your chances may vary based on other factors (such as age and country).
Will I be paid if I'm published?
Because the LOC Project is a charity-based venture, you will not receive compensation for any media that is published.
